Clear direction for building a business that finally works

The trap I didn’t see coming (and you might not either)

The trap I didn’t see coming (and you might not either)

Here’s a question worth 10 minutes of your time today:

If you needed to move your website tomorrow, how hard would it be?

Not “would you want to” – how hard would it actually be to take everything with you?

I’ve been on Kajabi for 6-7 years. All-in-one platform. Convenient. Until the recent price increase made me reassess whether they’re actually doing anything spectacular enough to justify what they charge.

So I decided to move.

That’s when I discovered something I’d never thought to check: I can’t export my site.

  • Over 100 blog posts? Manual copy and paste. Every single one.
  • My images? Can’t bulk download them. Right click. Save Image As.
  • Pages I’ve built? Can’t duplicate or export them. Start from scratch.
  • They’ve even structured the data in a way that makes it nearly impossible to scrape cleanly – so I get fragments instead of full sentences.

I’m not writing this to complain about Kajabi (though honestly, I’m furious). I’m writing this because I never thought to check until I needed to leave.

And now I’m looking at weeks of tedious work that could have been avoided if I’d been backing things up as I went.

They want you to feel trapped. The friction isn’t accidental – it’s by design.

Well, now I’m on a mission. My renewal date is February 25th, and I’m getting off this platform before then if it kills me. (Keep your fingers crossed for me.)

What you should do now

So here’s what I’m asking you to do:

Take 10 minutes this week and answer these questions:

  1. Can you export your blog content in a usable format?
  2. Can you download all your images in one go?
  3. If you had to rebuild somewhere else, do you have copies of everything?

If the answer to any of those is “no” or “I’m not sure,” start creating backups now.

Even if you’re happy with your platform. Even if you have no plans to move.

Because one price increase, one feature removal, one policy change – and you might not have a choice.

Don’t wait until you’re angry to find out you’re also trapped.

P.S. Heads up – I won’t be posting new blogs for a couple weeks while I get everything moved. But I’ll be back, and on a platform that doesn’t hold my content hostage.
